DETERMINATORS’ CONSTITUTION

I. Team Name

We decided on our team name after considering a few options, and then taking a vote. The Determinators are unlike the movie figure of which many might think when they read or hear our team name. We are not on a negative mission; ours is a positive one. We are in pursuit of success by working together to complete the BAM program. We are bound and determined to accomplish our goals.

II. Mission Statement

To enrich our lives through continual learning by capitalizing on each others strengths as we grow both as individuals and as a team.

III. Schedule of meeting times

We have planned to meet on Fridays from 6 – 8 p.m., and Sundays from 5 – 7 p.m.

Face to face meetings will take place at Moser Center. Conference calls and blogging and online meetings via our team website http://determinators.net/ will also take place as needed.

IV. Rules of Engagement

  • We will be authentic at all times.
  • We (the sender and receiver) will assume positive intent.
  • We will be respectful by practicing active listening.
  • We will allow everyone’s voice to be heard.
  • We will foster and maintain openness by being receptive to and valuing others’ opinins.
  • We will be aware of our tone of voice by thinking about how we say things before we say them.
  • We will maintain confidentiality when necessary.
  • We will assess and evaluate the time and place when conflict must be addressed.
  • We will provide constructive feedback and have fact based observations/examples when addressing conflict.
  • We will eliminate counterproductive use of time by staying focused and engaged; there should be no interrupting or sidebar conversations.
  • We will not assume there is agreement on important issues. We will ask if everyone agrees and can support the decision.
  • After meetings, we will support any decision that we made as a team.
  • We will all commit to respectfully enforcing the spirit of these rules.
  • We will all be willing to share responsibility and available to interchange roles.

VI. Team Contributions and Areas for Development

Following are each team member’s strengths and areas for future development.

Cory :

Strengths – written and verbal communication skills; critical thinking; creativity; team player; sense of humor.

Areas for development – deadlines; math; science; doesn’t deal well with rejection or not being heard.

Robyn :

Strengths – math; organization; creativity; open-mindedness.

Areas for development – public speaking; writing.

Valerie :

Strengths – positive attitude; experience on successful and struggling teams; administrative and marketing experience.

Areas for development – Sometimes has a hard time giving up control; gets bored if not properly motivated; struggles with algebra.

Sue :

Strengths – focused; determined; disciplined; considerate; sensitive.

Areas for development – math phobic; can be impatient; often wears her heart on her sleeve; can be too sensitive.

Dave :

Strengths – Problem solving; communication skills; self accountability; thorough.

Areas for development – algebra challenged; desire to be thorough sometimes causes slow production.

VII. Pertinent Information – attendance and conflict resolution

  1. A team member unable to attend a group meeting is to contact the rest of the team as soon as possible. If it is not possible for that person to contact the entire team, he or she is to contact one member who will let the rest of the team know. This will allow the team to determine how to compensate for the team member’s absence.
  2. A team meeting will be held to solve any issue that may come up. If any team sincerely feels that another team member is not pulling her or his weight by not participating or not doing their share of work and it is affecting the rest of the team in a negative way, we will address the issue in a positive and supportive manner as a team.
